For the 5th time in 9 years, former Melrose Place actress Heather Locklear has reportedly entered a rehab facility. According to Radar Online, she had a holiday meltdown. Some accounts maintained that Locklear entered rehab drunk and on pills, crying and screaming. She was so intoxicated and incoherent that she required assistance to get inside the facility. An anonymous source said she was using alcohol and benzo(s).
Locklear told People that she was “tying up some loose ends regarding certain issues so I can hit 2017 full steam ahead.” Radar Online referred to the actress as a “washed-up sexpot.”
According to one onlooker who spoke to Radar, Locklear appeared, “tired, bloated and unkempt.” They also added that, “she had a dazed look on her face with dark circles under her eyes and a large gash on her nose. She just seemed out of it.”
Heather Locklear – Her History of Substance Abuse
Heather Locklear’s problems with alcohol and drugs have been an issue for at least a decade. These type of problems should come as no surprise to anyone who works as a professional in the treatment of alcoholism or substance abuse. Experts will testify that alcoholism is a progressive and fatal condition if untreated. Over most periods, alcohol abuse gets worse instead of improving. It is rare for anyone to recover without outside help. Even with proper care, sobriety can be precarious and limited.
In Locklear’s case, according to The Fix, an anonymous source told the site that when Locklear first entered treatment, she “sought treatment at an Arizona medical facility in June 2008 for “anxiety and depression.” A source told People at that time that, “Heather is in bed all the time, usually four days out of the week. Hungover, she lays in bed. She’s depressed, she just hangs out.”
In July of 2010, Locklear was also arrested. She was charged with a misdemeanor hit-and-run. It resulted in another inpatient rehab stay for 30 days. According to People, the actress was driving a black 2005 BMW, and debris was tracked back to her. She was technically arrested, although was not handcuffed or taken to the station. The charges were later dismissed.
Heather Locklear – Her Recent Alcohol Problems
More recently, in January 2012, Locklear took a dangerous combination of alcohol and prescription drugs. She went to the hospital and was released. There were rumors at that time that her extra use of drugs and alcohol was due to her engagement with long-time boyfriend, Jack Wagner, being called off.
In addition to that trouble, Locklear was sent back to the hospital last September after allegedly mixing alcohol and drugs (yet again). An insider told People that, “Heather became a different person on drugs.” The insider also said that she was strongly urged by friends and family to return to treatment. “Her family is all over her with concern, and that’s a hard thing to hear.”
Perhaps the 5th round of treatment will prove successful for Locklear. If not, she may not have a chance for a 6th: substance abuse often proves fatal, even for celebrities. Hopefully, the former Melrose Place star can get the help she needs before it is too late.
