Hollywood A-lister–Ben Affleck is an actor, producer, director, and screenwriter and is also a previous patient in a few drug rehab treatment facilities. He first experienced a recovery program at 28 years old. At the time, Affleck went into a program deliberately with the end goal to (at last) defeat his progressing fights with addiction.
Fans of Affleck might recollect a story from 2001, after a horrible bender in Las Vegas, Affleck called upon Charlie Sheen, then (at the time) 3 years sober, to get him into treatment. It remains vague on the amount of time he really spent battling addiction, but Ben has spoken transparently about requiring help. He said he entered a recovery program as a “pre-emptive strike” because of his family’s history of addiction and alcoholism. He also said he,”decided that a fuller life awaits without alcohol,” expressing that he was just, “one night from being the center of an E! Main story.”
He was introduced to a recovery track and did well. As indicated by a 2012 interview, he was guaranteeing to be sober, saying he quit drinking to be a decent father and husband to Jennifer Garner (married in 2005).
Ben Affleck’s affection for celebrating with drugs and alcohol unfortunately kept on raising its head a few more times.
2010–it came out that Ben fell off the wagon. Publicists, staffers and others were stunned to find Ben drinking at Sundance Festival because they knew he was an admitted recovering alcoholic. All the photographers near the area were removed to protect Affleck.
He is still not spotless of alcohol, as the Batman actor is back in the tabloid spotlight again. New reports are saying Ben’s addictions on gambling and alcohol are getting worse.
Ben’s ex, Jennifer Garner is reportedly trying to get Ben to go back to rehab. Following their divorce announcement (after an alleged affair), it has been reported from multiple sources he started drinking problematically. A (family friend insider) recently spoke with In Touch Weekly about Garner’s issues with Ben saying:
“Ben’s battle with alcoholism has been rearing its ugly head. Jen says he’s been drinking throughout the day.”
Recent reports are stating he is back into his old lifestyle of drinking, including possible prescription drugs, and heavy gambling. The actor is a frequent visitor of casinos whenever he is not shooting films and was even kicked out of a Las Vegas casino once for card counting.
What Now For Ben?
He and Jennifer Garner have split, but push to stay supportive of their 2 children, as responsible parents, also while going through a custody battle. Ben Affleck has been reportedly turning to alcohol (possibly other drugs) to cope the mess in his family life. Now, it seems Ben’s main support system seems to be his best friend Matt Damon and his agent & friend Patrick Whitesell. Friends, family, fans of Ben can be helpful in seeing him recover from relapse. Admitting help is the first step and we can only hope to see him get back on track.
Albeit this clip is meant to be seen as satire comedy, you see a dazed look on Ben as he stares into a seemingly dark place while talking about his latest Batman Vs. Superman:
