April 29, 2017 is drug take back day. This encourages individuals to turn in unused or unwanted prescription drugs operated by the DEA. Back in October of 2016, individuals within the United States turned in about 730,000 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs per Drug Enforcement Administration. There was a total of 5,200 sites available to Americans who wanted to turn in their prescription drugs by the DEA. Different states and local law enforcements also participated in drug take back day and were successful.
This Day is an Opportunity for People to Start Fresh
Last year was not the first-year drug take back day took place. Drug take back day has been conducted about 12 times and has received about 7.1 million pounds of prescription drugs or pills. So, who would drug take back day target? It has been reported back in 2015 that about 6.4 million Americans abused prescription pills per National Survey on Drug Use and Health ranging from 12 years of age and older.
It is a common theme that many Americans abuse prescription pills. They have admitted that they receive these drugs from family members, friends, doctors and convenience through their family medicine drawer. Many individuals are finding themselves addicted which then cause drug overdoses. This is the main cause of injury related death within the United States.
What Can You Do on Drug Take Back Day
Raising awareness is crucial for the young generation. Drug take back down is on April 29, 2017 and is being conducted between the hours of 10 am to 2 pm. Its main purpose is to conduct a safe, reliable and judgment free zone by allowing Americans to dispose their unwanted prescription pills. It also aims to educate and raise awareness on the harm that prescription pills can do to someone. Bring in your unwanted pills to a safety zone conducted place in your area and educate your loved ones on the dangers.
