Recovery is Possible

Finding Alcohol Recovery Treatment

Looking for alcohol recovery treatment? You’re not alone. According to the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, “alcohol is the most commonly used addictive substance in the United States“, with “one in every 12 adults” suffering the severe, life-altering effects of alcohol abuse.

Admitting that you need help is an important step in your recovery journey – now you need to find the right alcohol recovery treatment center or program for you and your family. It’s important to understand that treatment programs vary in their cost, services, duration and after-care options.

The three basic types of alcohol recovery treatment programs are inpatient, outpatient, and 12-step peer-support; it’s common for people to access more than one type of program during the course of their recovery.

Inpatient Alcohol Recovery Treatment

Also known as residential alcohol recovery treatment, inpatient programs are intensive, time-limited, and focus on providing you with a complete recovery environment where you focus on identifying the reasons why you developed an addiction to alcohol, along with learning new, healthy coping mechanisms that you can use to continue your recovery journey.

Residential alcohol recovery treatment programs vary in their cost, length, and treatment philosophy. There are specialized residential programs for men, women and youth, as well as those who have co-current medical issues. Most inpatient programs take between 30 to 90 days to complete, and many offer aftercare services such as support groups and counseling.

Outpatient Alcohol Recovery Treatment

With this type of treatment program, you make regular visits to an outpatient center where you will participate in both individual and group counseling sessions. Depending on the program and your specific needs, outpatient alcohol recovery treatment can involve a significant investment of time – in many cases, participants are expected to attend 2-4 hours of sessions a day, for a minimum of 3 days per week.

When compared to residential alcohol recovery treatment costs, outpatient alcohol recovery treatment programs can be more affordable since there is no room and board expense, however, it’s important to note that some people find it difficult to fully immerse themselves in the recovery process while continuing to live in their homes.

12-Step Alcohol Recovery Treatment

12-Step programs, also known as peer programs, involve participating in community-based, volunteer-run groups that focus on identifying addictive behaviors and traits, making resolution and/or restitution, and providing service to others who struggle with substance abuse.

Alcoholics Anonymous is the largest and oldest 12-step organization, with anonymous meetings held worldwide 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Members of AA are expected to completely abstain from all alcohol use.

Choosing the Right Alcohol Recovery Treatment

When considering what type of alcohol recovery treatment program is right for you, it’s important to think about the severity of your addiction, your previous experience with treatment programs, and what financial resources are available to you – many insurance providers cover the cost associated with alcohol recovery treatment.
