Many recovering addicts tend to focus on what makes them happy. To them every day is a blessing being able to wake up clean and refreshed. Many of us who haven’t gone through these struggles may take this for granted. Let’s take a moment to reflect on an addicts past. What are some characteristics of an addict? Some might say manipulative, unreliable, persuasive and controlling. Yes, this may be true but this person is not the same person once sober. The person who is now in recovery now see’s things in a different light. The person who is ready for new adventure and wants to keep it this way.
To a lot of recovering addicts every day is a new adventure. This individual has found new ways to overcome obstacles and find peace. Recovering addicts tend to lean on activities they once did in the past that brought them joy. They see every day as a new opportunity to be a better version of themselves. Every one around them is happier and willing to take on this new journey. Getting out, breathing and finding new ways to laugh and smile at the small things is essential.
What Is Your New Adventure?
Whether this new adventure is waking up with a smile on your face every day, going on a hike or falling in love with someone, every day is something to cherish and be happy with. Accomplishing and beating addiction in it self is a new adventure. Getting rid of the toxins and the evil person you once were should be in itself the greatest adventure of them all. So, think to yourself what is your new or next adventure going to be?
To a recovering addict taking small steps is a simple but yet satisfying approach. The phrase every day is a new adventure is what you make it out to be. Choosing whether or not to partake in new adventures is solely up to you. Only you can make yourself get up, get out and do new things. Make a vow to be the person who people want to be around day in and day out.
