The holidays are full of laughter, cheer and getting family and friends together. It can also be a difficult occasion with having someone in recovery around too. Making sure that you are being generous and courteous of their needs can be challenging. Hosting a holiday party and knowing a guest is overcoming addiction can be a bit tricky. Go ahead and prepare a tasty non-alcoholic drink this holiday for that special loved one.
Accommodating Everyone’s Needs Can Be Tough
Being able to accommodate both sides of your party can be tough. You will have guests who are not addicts and can socially have a drink. But then you have someone in recovery, so what do you do? Prepare non addicts to bring their own drinks and to make sure they bring it home afterwards. Let them know that someone in the house is in recovery and to be gentle with this matter. Or you can completely have a non-alcoholic holiday party. If this is the case be sure to make plenty of your non-alcoholic drink of choice. Remember this is your house so your rules! The goal is to satisfy both parties and please everyone.
So lets begin with the non-alcoholic drink of choice. I would encourage you to prepare a delicious and tasty one that resembles your holiday. As soon as they walk in the door make them feel invited and not alone at this time. Going above and beyond to ensure your guest feels comfortable goes a long way. Showing your compassion will really make this time easier. Inform them that you personally made a tasty drink and present it to them right away (non-alcoholic of course).
What Type Of Non-Alcoholic Drink Will You Make?
I came across an easy recipe for a tasty non-alcoholic drink. I think its very fitting for this time of year. Of course you can do anything you’d like but just to get you started in the right direction. How about a Thanksgiving Punch? Super easy to make and perfect for the holiday. The ingredients are shown below from the my recipes collection online:
- 1/2 cup peeled, chopped fresh ginger
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 4 cups pomegranate juice
- 4 cups pineapple juice
- 6 cups ginger ale
“Stir 1/2 cup peeled, chopped fresh ginger, 1/2 cup sugar and 1 1/2 cups water in a saucepan over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Bring mixture to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Let cool and strain. Mix syrup with 4 cups pomegranate juice, 4 cups pineapple juice and 6 cups ginger ale. Serve over ice. Serves 8.”
And just like that you have a tasty non-alcoholic drink for your holiday party this year! Always be prepared to satisfy and accommodate both parties. Play it safe and be respectful to everyone’s needs. Enjoy!
